Radiation is bad, mmmkay?

For those of you who have never seen South Park, you've dodged a bullet, congratulations.  This is in reference to the post title.  Mr. Mackey, you're the bee's knees.

Physically, today sucked it up.  Mentally it was so-so.  I will rate this day at one donkey on the Clydesdale Scale, which goes as high as ten Clydesdale.  It could've been worse, it could've been a Shetland pony.  And you are correct in believing there is no such thing as this scale.  Never the less, this is the scale we'll be using for now.

My everything hurts, and it hurts quite a bit.  I've had 8 saltine crackers and a diet Sprite since 8 am.  Anything more won't stay down.  I do not, and let me be perfectly clear about this, recommend that anyone ever receive radiation treatment.  My nurse has kindly informed me that each day will be worse for some indefinite period.  She's a sweet lady, really.  But sometimes she is honest and that's not great.

Right now the game is all about disavowing my physical reality and finding any and every escape that allows time to pass by without me noticing just how much awful is presently occupying the same space as my body.

Well, it is time for bed.  Not sleep, but the general act of lying in bed.  I will attempt to distract myself with something humorous.

As for the rest of you, keep avoiding radiation.  It is the smart thing to do.

Shout outs go to: Orange Soda, for taking good care of Emily.  Emily, for being better than everyone else at everything of consequence.  Elliot and Jessica, for taking care of my sweet boys.  Everyone who takes the time to read this, thank you for caring about my family.

The picture of the day, me after radiation therapy.  Once again, that isn't a healthy glow, that's a rash:

  2. Are you sure you want to put a donkey above a shetland pony, Ryan? I am thinking it should be the other way around, but this is your scale so if you are sure....

Mr Mackey is awesome. I took a Facebook quiz (late at night, bored out of my mind) to tell me which South park character I was and it told me Butters. Incredibly, amazingly accurate. You should take the quiz then watch many, many episodes and see the insight you will gain. I was Butters in every episode, but it really hit home in the one where the Harley riders invade town and he joins them. Heh. A little too close for comfort, maybe? Maybe.

You look awfully unhappy in these last few pictures and I hope it isn't long before you are smiling for the camera again. I also hope the sweet nurse had it wrong in your case.

My dad tells me every time we talk to avoid getting old and diabetes. Now radiation, too. I will do my best. Because you shared such important advice with me I am going to share some with you from my own experience. Don't have five pets. See how we helped each other out today? We'll both be happier for learning the other's lesson.

I know I am babbling - I am trying to distract you for a minute haha. Is is working? let me know if you want babble because I rock at babble. Until I hear you really want it, though, I will say goodnight for now. Hang tough, my friend.

    1. The babbling is good. Also, I love Butters. I want to know which character I am. Probably Stan, possibly Mr. Hankey.

We had so many pets when I was growing up. I loved it. Now we have no pets and I feel bad for my boys. Pets really are a pain though.

I will also avoid getting diabetes or old. The radiation will keep coming for four more days. There's no avoiding that for me. But you kids should run for the hills while there's still time.

Day two radiation was barftastic. I made it 5 minutes in to the first treatment and then tossed cookies while two lovely assistants sort of just watched and waited. The fun of it, really, is that you're covered in sweat, wearing only a pair of pants, and that is when it hits me: But for the participants intent, we could be having a really good time.

Thank you for the distraction. Today has been survived

  3. Thumbs up to surviving. Are the watching assistants really necessary? I mean, if they are just watching they aren't really assisting, are they? Go away or make yourselves useful, people.

I don't know about the good time thing. I have been with friends while they were sweating and throwing up and it was never that fun for me watching. Of course, they usually had shirts on so maybe that is key. Once I had a friend throw up Goldschlager on my feet and you would think that vomiting gold leaf would be a cooler experience than it actually was.

    Too much barf talk?

Don't feel too bad for your boys. They probably won't grow up entirely without pets, right? Maybe when things are a little more settled around your house you can get a nice, quiet, old dog. I have an extra one if you want it. He is the best of the bunch. I am convinced that old is the way to go when purchasing a pet. The puppy is the one that's killing me, though my daughter has it all figured out. She is in charge of scooping the cat box and feeding her puppy. She has learned that if she doesn't scoop fast enough the puppy eats the cat poop and she really has no pet responsibilities at all! it's the perfect little ecosystem except for the puppy's halitosis issue.

Nasty. Ok, I have to go to the gym. I think it is radiation free and, unfortunately, the oldies and diabetics avoid it as well so I should be safe there. Watch me have a heart attack.

I could see you as Stan. Keep on surviving!

  4. The circumstances under which Emily would allow a pet are very specific. I'm not sure that we can meet them. I'll try to pin her down on details. I really do love cats and dogs, dogs more.

Good luck with your puppy. I also agree about buying older pets that have been trained.
